To coincide with the Showtime release of The Wire and CSI director Joe Chappelle's An Acceptable Loss Bedroom Community proudly presents Valgeir Sigurðsson’s original score, released on December 20th as part of our HVALREKI series.

Starring Tika Sumpter and Jamie Lee Curtis, An Acceptable Loss is a tense political thriller tackling the grim realities of western nations and their roles in middle eastern conflicts. Using characteristic balance of orchestral textures, but dragged through avant-garde performance and electronic manipulations, Sigurðsson conjures atmospheres and soundscapes that can switch from ethereal and dreamlike to visceral and menacing on a dime. There is a distinct lack of lush string ensembles here, but a more sparse use of singular instruments set the tone. Borgar Magnason (double bass), Liam Byrne (viola da gamba) and Daniel Pioro (violin) provide the building blocks out of which Sigurðsson constructs huge towers of suspense, subsequently releasing back to their singular intimate sources, staggering around sparse soundscapes.
